The XOOPS core development team is pleased to announce the release of XOOPS 2.0.17.
Which is actually quite speedy and a good sign that things are happening again.
Xoops got to the top five finalists for the Packt Publishing award last year.
One to watch again.

The Open Source release of Movable Type 4 is not available yet, but the beta version can be downloaded and tested.
In the meantime, have a look at this Mashable article which compares the two systems.

Movable Type 4 Beta

Movable Type 4 Beta RC1 is available to download and test for free, which in itself is not all that interesting, but the fact that this version will be available as an Open Source product when finalised probably is.
It is easy to install: basically just bung the directory in your cgi-bin and off you go, although you may have to run one sub-directory from a different location. Setting up a new blog in a new directory from the main codebase is embarrassingly simple.
Some of the features which make the enterpise version attractive for large operations will still, I assume, have to be paid for, even when it comes out of beta and into an Open Source version.
If you have used WordPress or WordPress Mu, will this version of Movable Type have anything on offer which will convince you to move? The honest answer from my point of views is that I have not used it enough to tell, but probably not.
However, for anyone who likes playing with different software, you can have it running in ten minutes, so you may as well give it a try.
