I’m All Right Jack: Straw On Liberty

Today on The Guardian, Jack Straw, the Minister of Justice, tries to put a beneficial spin on the New Labour record for civil liberties, which has so far convinced absolutely nobody.

As a commenter called Evoke has put it:

Hahahahahaha. Is he having a laugh or what? Are you having a laugh Jack. This is a government of lying, mendacious scumbags - you and all Macavity’s little kittens.

“….right to our own identities…”, have you gone mad, Jack? Has the stress of being at the top finally gotten to you? I do not take the right to my own identity from you Jack, you take your rights to be in parliament from me, mate.

You seem to have forgotten, all these long years, getting fat off the work of the taxpayer that I am the boss Jack, not you. ME. You do what I want Jack, not the other way round. Without me, you’d just be another provincial wannabe, working class boy with a degree. You’re ten a penny Jack.

How bloody dare you lecture me on civil liberties!

Go and read through the comments, which are increasing by the moment, and if you see one which actually supports Jack Straw and this government, come back and let me know.

I found your blog earlier, quite by coincidence, and it seems my little bit of outrage over breakfast perked your interest! I am of course, tremendously flattered to be quoted in this way!

    Good blog, I will return……
